Smart PPP urban projects in China for a greener environment

Challenge:

Rapid urbanization and associated problems of high rates of pollution in the Beijing area

Solution:

Smart green cities through a PPP partnership between the China Fortune Land Development Co. Ltd. and Guan County of Hebei province in the Southern part of Beijing. In the PPP model, the private partner operates as a PPP green city (Guan City), having been given the land by the state to build homes and factories, promoting investment in infrastructure and public services

SDG 3: Good health and well-being by reducing air pollution

SDG 11: Sustainable city concept, boosting economic development in the Southern Beijing area

SDG 12: Responsible production by the private partner

SDG 13: Contribution to climate improvement by using green technologies; and

SDG 17: PPP model feasible in China, with further development concepts in Indonesia and India

The Project:

  • Protected the environment by promoting a greener economy, controlling pollution
  • Increased access of essential services
  • Can be easily replicated and scaled up to achieve the transformational impact needed; and improved economic effectiveness by creating a new approach to the existing challenge
